Saints Clip The Firebirds On Senior Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Closing out the regular season on Senior Day, the D'Youville University women's lacrosse team clipped the University of the District of Columbia by a score of 25-2 Saturday morning. The 25 goals scored in the game is a new team record.
 
The Saints (5-9, 2-4 ECC) were led by Madison Buck (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) with 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) and Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) accounting for 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists). Buck's 10 assists is a new record for most assists in a game by an individual. It was a complete team effort, as 12 players found the back of the net. Lauren Parker (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) led the team with four groundballs and nine draw controls. Emily Fischer (Grand Island, N.Y./Mount St. Mary Academy) was solid in the circle as well, winning seven draw controls.
 
DYU started out of the gates on fire, going up 11-0 after the first quarter of play. Eight different players scored a goal in the frame with Handley, Buck, and Jillian Bernas (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's) each scoring a pair of goals. The Saints continued to fire on all cylinders, scoring four more goals in the second to take a 15-0 lead into the break. Handley added three more to her goal total in the quarter.
 
To start the second half, D'Youville scored two more goals, scoring 17 unanswered to start the game. The Firebirds got on back but three more goals by DYU made it 20-1 after three quarters of action. In the fourth, D'Youville scored four straight before UDC got their second goal of the game. DYU closed out the scoring with one second remaining as Buck scored her fifth goal of the game.
 
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) went the distance in net, making four saves.
