BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's basketball team's season came to an end on Wednesday, falling to Molloy University in the first round of the ECC Tournament by a score of 72-59.

Senior
Sofie Fuglsang (Oberanven, Luxembourg) scored a team-high 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded a block and a steal in her final game as a Saint. In her last game in a DYU uniform, senior
Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists, and recorded three steals and two blocks. Junior
Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) delivered a solid performance as well, scoring 13 points, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, and registering a steal.

The Saints got out to a slow start, falling behind 10-0 out of the gate, before Fuglsang knocked down a three-pointer to get them on the board. DYU's first four made shots were from beyond the arc, as Giancaterino, Jankovic, and Fuglsang each made one to cut the deficit to 18-12 with 3:05 left in the first quarter. Redshirt sophomore
Megan Fedor (Elmira, N.Y.) made a pair of layups to keep it a six-point game with 1:39 remaining in the quarter. Molloy took a 26-18 lead heading into the second quarter.

Layups from Fedor and Jankovic trimmed the Lions' lead to four early in the second quarter. Fuglsang canned a three-pointer to make it a 28-25 game. Jankovic put in a layup and Giancaterino sank a mid-range jumper to keep the Saints within three halfway through the quarter. A layup from Jankovic pulled DYU within two of Molloy, but the Lions extended their lead back to four and went to halftime with a 41-37 edge.

DYU was held scoreless over the first five minutes of the third quarter, but they also limited Molloy to just one point over that span. Giancaterino made a layup at the 4:59 mark and the Saints only trailed by three. Layups from Fedor and Jankovic made it a 47-43 game with 3:39 remaining in the quarter. The Lions increased their lead to 51-43 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.

Freshman
Samantha Ruhlman (Warren, Pa.) knocked down a three-pointer to begin the final frame and cut the Saints' deficit to five. Fedor converted a pair of free throws and a close-range jumper to keep them within six with seven minutes remaining. Molloy extended their lead to eleven to put DYU on the ropes with 3:53 left in the fourth quarter. The Saints couldn't get a shot to fall until Giancaterino put in a layup with 55 seconds to go. Haleigh Schafer (Eggharbor City, N.J.) banked in a mid-range jumper with 13 seconds remaining, but it was too little too late as Molloy ran out the clock to secure the win and advance to the semifinals.

D'Youville finishes the 2024-25 campaign with a 10-16 record and 8-8Â in the ECC.
