BUFFALO, N.Y. – Making their home debut, the D'Youville University women's lacrosse team scored six unanswered goals to get the 12-10 win over Franklin Pierce University Sunday afternoon.
The Saints (2-2) were led offensively by
Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) with five points (4 goals, 1 assist) with
Sydney Gordon (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) adding four points (3 goals, 1 assist).
Jillian Bernas (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's) had a solid day, scoring three goals in the outing.
Lauren Parker (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) go the offense going, winning seven draw controls and now holds the career record for draw controls with 138. The record was previously held by Riley Riedel '22.
BreeLynn LaLonde (Theresa, N.Y./Indian River) also was key in the draw controls, grabbing five on the day.
On the defensive side,
Lily Buckley (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) had a career-high five groundballs with Parker and
Sophia Conzone (Auburn, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) each grabbing four groundballs.
Ashley Cuipylo (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) was a menace on the defensive end, causing three turnovers.
The teams traded blows in the first 10 minutes of play, with neither gaining much of an advantage as the game was tied 3-3. The Ravens did rattle off five in a row to make it 8-3 with 11:26 left before halftime. DYU did battle back to make it a two-goal game with goals from Gordon, Handley, and Bernas. FPU did tack on a goal late to take a 9-6 lead into the break.
Coming out of the half, the Ravens score the first goal but then it was all D'Youville, holding Franklin Pierce goal-less for the final 24 minutes of play. The Saints used that momentum on the defensive side and transitioned it to the offensive end, scoring six straight to come from behind to secure the victory.
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) earned the win in net, making 12 saves on the day.
The Saints will be back in action this Wednesday, March 19th, as they hist Saint Michael's College at 4 p.m.
