Saints Close Out Day Three with a Split After Defeating Jefferson in Game Two

MELBOURNE, FL – The D'Youville University Softball team ended day three of the Space Coast games with a split after falling 5-1 to Ursuline College in the morning. The Saints offense picked back up in game two as D'Youville defeated Jefferson 12-10.

D'Youville University 1 vs Ursuline College 5 – Game One
The Saints offense started slow in their first game as D'Youville quickly fell behind 3-0 to the Ursuline College Arrows after an inning and a half. Hailee Jenkins (Ontario, Canada / Fenelon Falls SS) got the offense going with a double to left field. Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) delivered a well-executed sacrifice bunt to move Jenkins to third and Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) beat out a single to second to score Jenkins and put the Saints on the board.
The score remained at 3-1 in the Arrows favor until the top of the fifth as Ursuline scored two more runs to extend their lead to 5-1. The Saints threatened in the fifth and seventh inning but were unable to get a runner past second and the Arrows would win the game 5-1.

Summer Clark (Williamsille, N.Y. / Williamsville East) was a standout in game one recording a hit in all four of her at-bats.

D'Youville University 11 vs Jefferson University 8 – Game Two
Game two was all offense for the Saints as they recorded nine hits as a team. Summer Clark stayed on top of her game at the plate in game two recording three more hits to go six-for-eight on the day. Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. /Starpoint) also recorded three this in game two including a double.

The Saints got on the board early scoring one run in the top of the first and another in the top of the second to take the 2-0 lead. The Rams made their comeback in the bottom of the second plating six runs to take the 6-2 lead.

D'Youville accepted the challenge and immediately answered back in the top of third inning scoring eight runs to control the game. A single from Summer Clark started the inning and hits from Adamo, Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, BC, Canada / Belmont SS) helped propel the Saints to take the lead. The Jefferson offense was shut down for the third inning as the Saints tacked on another run in the top of the fourth. The Rams managed two runs in the bottom of the fourth to trail 11-8.

The Saints scored their twelfth and final run in the top of the sixth with aggressive baserunning from Ally Beardi (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Mary's) The Rams offense could not come up with an answer until the bottom of the seventh when Jefferson scored two runs to bring the score to 12-10. Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) struck out the last Jefferson batter to end the comeback and the Saints took game two 12-10.

The Saints enjoy an off day in Florida tomorrow before returning to the diamond on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The Saints will face off against New Haven University at 12:15 PM followed by a game against Ferris State University at 2:30 PM.
