DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's basketball team was defeated by Mercy University by a score of 55-38 on Friday night.

Sofie Fuglsang (Oberanven, Luxembourg) scored a team-high 14 points, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two blocks and a steal for the Saints. Senior
Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) added 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The Mavericks got out to an 8-0 lead before Fuglsang got the Saints on the board with a mid-range jumper. Fuglsang then knocked down a three-pointer to trim Mercy's lead to 10-6. Six-straight points from the Mavericks put them ahead by ten before a layup from Jankovic put a stop to the run and make it a 16-8 game with 1:15 remaining in the quarter.

A pair of layups from Fuglsang kept DYU within eight early in the second quarter. Jankovic put in a layup to trim Mercy's lead to 20:15 with 4:39 remaining until halftime. However, the Mavericks closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 30-15 advantage going into halftime.

Isabella Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) sank a three-pointer to make it 35-20 in the early stages of the third quarter. Kostyal-Larrier converted a close-range jumper and Fuglsang cashed in from beyond the arc to keep the Saints within fifteen halfway through the quarter. Fuglsang made a layup and Jankovic made a free throw towards the end of the quarter, but DYU went to the fourth quarter trailing 45-28.

Aliviya Vallone Russell (Buffalo, N.Y.) drilled a three-pointer to make it 52-36 halfway through the quarter. A layup from Jankovic cut the deficit to fourteen with 3:43 remaining, but Mercy would hold the Saints scoreless the rest of the way and clinch the 55-38 victory.

With the loss, D'Youville falls to 5-15 and 3-8 in the ECC. They will be back in action on Sunday when they face St. Thomas Aquinas College in another road matchup at 1:00 p.m.
