Neumann Leads Saints with 20 Points as D'Youville Takes Down Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. — D'Youville defeated Mansfield University, 74-58, at Decker Gymnasium, breaking open a close game with a decisive 27-point third quarter. D'Youville capitalized on the Mountaineers' 20 turnovers, converting them into 31 points, and maintained a 41-28 rebounding advantage.
The first quarter opened with a fast-paced exchange, as D'Youville took an early lead with Molly O'Toole's (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas Institute) transition 3-pointer at 9:17. Alyssa Neumann (Silverdale, Wash. / Central Kitsap) contributed significantly, scoring five points including a layup with 35 seconds remaining, which momentarily put D'Youville ahead. However, the Mountaineers responded with a last-second 3-pointer, leaving D'Youville trailing 13-12 at the end of the quarter.
D'Youville seized momentum in the second quarter with a critical layup by Neumann at 9:12, and followed it with a successful free throw, establishing an early lead. The visitors continued to capitalize, with O'Toole hitting a pivotal 3-pointer at 7:09, keeping the score tight. As the quarter progressed, Samantha Ruhlman (Warren, Pa. / Warren Area) made a key 3-pointer at 5:02, pushing D'Youville ahead. The quarter concluded with a go-ahead jumper from Ruhlman with just 10 seconds remaining, giving D'Youville a 26-24 lead at halftime.
D'Youville shifted the momentum early in the third quarter with a strong sequence, highlighted by a layup from Neumann at 9:30, assisted by Aliviya Vallone Russell (Buffalo, N.Y. / Cardinal O'Hara), regaining the lead. The team extended their advantage when O'Toole hit a three-pointer at 8:06, again assisted by Vallone Russell. D'Youville continued their offensive surge, with Ruhlman contributing a three-pointer at 4:10, capitalizing on a steal by Ava Pearson (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie)
D'Youville's defense was equally impactful, with Neumann blocking a shot at 8:16 and securing multiple rebounds, limiting the Mountaineers' scoring opportunities. Megan Fedor's (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) efforts in the paint, including a layup at 2:26, helped D'Youville maintain their lead. The quarter concluded with D'Youville leading 53–42, and the game ended with a decisive victory for D'Youville.
D'Youville maintained their momentum in the final quarter with a decisive 21–16 advantage over the Mountaineers. O'Toole led the effort with a crucial three-pointer at 7:48, stretching their lead and setting the tone for the quarter. The team showcased their range, hitting five three-pointers and assisting on seven of their eight field goals. D'Youville secured the victory with a final score of 74–58.
Neumann led the team with 20 points, shooting 9-for-16 from the field, and added eight rebounds and two blocks. O'Toole contributed significantly with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and collected nine rebounds. Ruhlman was effective on both ends, recording six assists and four steals. Fedor added 11 points and two steals, supporting the team's defensive efforts.
