JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The D'Youville University men's basketball team fell to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Saturday evening by a score of 85-72.
The Saints (0-4) opened the first half with a strong performance, highlighted by a key three-pointer from
LaShard Lowry, Jr. at 16:47, narrowing the deficit to five. A concerted effort on the boards, with 18 total rebounds, allowed them to keep pace with UPJ. Despite trailing early, DYU capitalized on turnovers and free throws, including two crucial free throws by
Elisha Warren at the buzzer, to close the half at 40–36 in favor of the Mountain Cats.
D'Youville made a strong effort in the second half, highlighted by a
Trayton Trice layup at 17:46 that kept the contest close early. Despite this, UPJ surged ahead with a series of successful plays in the paint, extending their lead. Warren contributed with a notable performance, including a three-pointer at 10:58, but the home team maintained control. The half concluded with UPJ outscoring D'Youville 45–36, resulting in a final score of 85–72.
Trice led the team with 18 points and collected a game-high 15 rebounds. Warren contributed 14 points and added five rebounds, while also recording two steals.
Kevin Thompson tallied eight points and matched his teammates with two steals.
Lucus Brown scored six points and grabbed six rebounds, while also recording two steals.
In their next game, D'Youville will travel to Indiana, Pennsylvania, to face Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, Nov. 23. The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
