Bower Strikes Early, Reifsnyder Stands Tall as Saints Shut Out Redhawks

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville secured a 1-0 shutout victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday in the season finale.

The match commenced with both teams battling for control, but it was D'Youville who took an early advantage. Only minutes into the game, Carter Bower scored the game's lone goal, assisted by Sydney Bolesta, giving D'Youville a 1-0 lead. Despite several fouls and a couple of shots on goal by Olivia McClaine and Erica Prible, the Saints maintained their 1-0 advantage at the end of the opening frame.

The second quarter was a defensive battle as neither team could find the back of the net. The period's highlight moment came when D'Youville's Sarah Reifsnyder made a key save on a shot by Natalee Lawrence with under two minutes remaining, allowing the Saints to maintain their narrow lead into the half.

The third quarter featured a standout defensive effort by D'Youville, highlighted by goalkeeper Sarah Reifsnyder's critical saves. Reifsnyder denied the Redhawks' Natalee Lawrence and Makena Tooley multiple times. Despite a series of fouls from both sides, neither team added to the scoreboard as we entered the final quarter.

D'Youville maintained their lead in a tense fourth quarter. The Redhawks applied pressure with multiple penalty corners and shots, yet Sarah Reifsnyder made crucial saves with six minutes on the clock, and another with under a minute to go, preserving the Saints' advantage. Despite several fouls from both teams, D'Youville's defense held firm, concluding the match with a 1-0 victory.

Carter Bower scored the game-winning goal, with her shot being both her first and only attempt on target. Sydney Bolesta recorded an assist to contribute to the offensive effort. Sarah Reifsnyder made seven saves, securing a shutout victory.

This win wraps up the season for D'Youville, as they complete the 2025 campaign with a 1-12 record. Saints field hockey is set to join the East Coast Conference next season.
