BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville and Roberts Wesleyan University battled to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at Dobson Field.
The first half began with both D'Youville and Roberts Wesleyan vying for control. D'Youville's offense initiated early pressure as
Danica Brill's (Gore's Landing, Ontario / Trinity College) shot was saved in the 7th minute.
Manta Socada (Helsinki, Finland / Deutsche Schule Helsinki) and
Olivia Paterniti (Allegany, N.Y. / Allegany-Limestone) also contributed attempts that went off target, demonstrating consistent offensive efforts.
Defensively, D'Youville's
Amanda Kit (Markham, Ontario / Bill Corthers SS) made a crucial save in the 22nd minute, maintaining a scoreless game. Despite several fouls, D'Youville's defense held firm against the Redhawks' attempts to gain an advantage. The half concluded with both teams unable to find the back of the net, ending with a 0-0 tie.
The second half began with the Redhawks taking an early lead in the 52nd minute through a goal by Mackenzie Hagen. D'Youville quickly responded, as Socada found the back of the net in the 56th minute to level the score. The remainder of the half saw D'Youville applying significant pressure, with multiple shots on target, including attempts by
Grace Larsen (Toronto, Ontario / Father John Redmond) and
Hannah Fleming (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport), all saved by the Redhawks' goalkeeper. Despite the persistent offensive efforts from D'Youville, the half closed with the score tied at 1-1.
Socada led the team by scoring the only goal for D'Youville, converting one of her three shots, with two on target. Kit was solid in goal, making three saves across two halves to keep the match close. Larsen contributed defensively and offensively, recording three shots with two on goal. Fleming added pressure to the opposing defense with two shots, both on target.
In their next game, the D'Youville Women's Soccer team travels to Waltham, Mass., to face Bentley University on October 11. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. as they look to secure a road victory.
