WALTHAM, Mass. — Bentley University triumphed over D'Youville University with a decisive 6-0 victory on Saturday at Yetten Field. The Saints goalkeeper made five saves, but Bentley's offense proved too strong, netting three goals in each half.
The first half began with D'Youville facing early pressure as Bentley fired a shot that was saved by
Alegra Black (Toronto, Ontario / Rabun Gap). However, Bentley broke through in the 5th minute with a goal. D'Youville responded with a shot by
Laoise O'Haodha (Limerick, Ireland / Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh) that went over the top, seeking to level the score.
Bentley extended their lead in the 19th minute as the Falcons found the net again. Despite attempts from the visitors, including a shot by
Melia La (Essex, England / Illinois Central College) that was saved by Bentley's goalkeeper, the team continued to apply pressure with a corner kick and a shot by
Eleonora Cecchini (San Marino, Fiorentino, Italy Liceo delle Scienze Umane) that hit the woodwork.
As the half closed, Bentley scored in the 41st minute, making it 3-0. The team continued to push forward, with attempts from
Danica Brill (Gores Landing, Ontario / Trinity College) and
Grace Larsen (Toronto, Ontario / Father John Redmond), but were unable to cut into the deficit by halftime.
The second half began with Bentley extending their lead early with a goal in the 46th minute, bringing the score to 4-0. Despite the efforts of the Saints, including a shot by Brill, Bentley continued to apply pressure.
Bentley added another goal in the 59th minute, increasing the home team's advantage to 5-0. D'Youville's
Amanda Kit (Markham, Ontario / Bill Corthers SS) made several key saves, to keep the deficit from growing further.
In the closing stages, Bentley scored a sixth goal in the 81st minute.
Melia La attempted to respond, but her shot was saved. The half ended with Bentley maintaining their lead, finalizing the score at 6-0.
Kit played a crucial role in goal, recording four saves against 11 shots faced. La led the midfield efforts with two shots, both on target. Brill contributed offensively with two shots, one of which was on goal. Black, sharing goalkeeping duties, added one save in the first half.
The Saints continue their season with another non-conference match at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, October 15th at 1:00 PM.
