Saints Earn Gritty 2-1 Win Over CSI

BUFFALO, N.Y. — DThe D'Youville University men's soccer team came away with a gutsy win Saturday afternoon, winning 2-1 against the College of Staten Island.

The first half began with both teams vying for control in the early minutes. D'Youville (2-4-2, 1-1-1 ECC) initiated the offensive push with a Conor Livingstone shot following a corner kick at 5:50. Defensive efforts were highlighted by a Matthew Solorio save against the Dolphins' shot in the 12th minute, keeping the score level.

The Saints managed several attempts on goal, including a notable shot by Omar Daoudi in the 33rd minute, which was saved by CSI. Despite the aggressive play from both sides, the first half closed with a 0-0 tie, with neither team breaking through on the scoreboard.

The second half of play began with a pivotal moment at the 47:55 mark when Ethan Robinson scored for DYU, assisted by Max Trushell, giving the home team an early lead. The Dolphins responded with pressure but were denied by Solorio's key saves, maintaining D'Youville's advantage. However, CSI equalized in the 78th minute with a goal.

The Saints reclaimed the lead shortly after with Ethan Filbert finding the back of the net in the 84th minute. The team maintained their defensive stance to preserve the lead, closing the half with a 2-1 advantage over the Dolphins.

Filbert scored the game-winning goal, converting his only shot on goal. Robinson also found the back of the net, tallying one goal from two shots. Solorio contributed defensively with four saves, allowing just one goal in 90 minutes. Trushell added an assist, contributing to the team's attacking play.
