Saints Drop Conference Match to Lions

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. — Molloy College defeated D'Youville University 2-0 on Saturday at John A. Darcy Field. Despite D'Youville registering four shots on goal, they were unable to find the back of the net. The Lions capitalized on their opportunities, scoring once in each half to secure the victory. D'Youville's defense managed to restrict Molloy to only four shots on target, but the Lions maintained a strong defensive presence to earn the shutout.
The match began with D'Youville's Amanda Kit (Markham, Ontario / Bill Crothers SS) guarding the net, effectively saving an early shot by the Lions'. Hannah Fleming (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) and Laoise O'Haodha (Limerick, Ireland Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh) responded with attempts on goal for D'Youville, but were thwarted by the Lions' defense. Despite these efforts, the Lions took the lead with a goal in the 26th minute. The half concluded with D'Youville trailing 1-0.
D'Youville pressed forward in the second half, creating several scoring opportunities despite trailing early. In the 55th minute, Hanna Dino delivered a corner kick, but D'Youville was unable to capitalize. O'Haodha and Eleonora Cecchini (San Marino, Fiorentino, Italy Liceo delle Scienze Umane) both attempted to cut into the Lions' lead with shots, but neither found the net, with O'Haodha's effort going wide and Cecchini's high.
Makaylah Higgins (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw) and Manta Socada (Helsinki, Finland / Deutsche Schule Helsinki) continued the offensive push for D'Youville, each testing the Lions' goalkeeper. Despite D'Youville's efforts, the half concluded with the Lions maintaining their lead. The game ended with a final score of 2-0 in favor of the Lions.
Manta Socada made her presence felt with one shot on goal. Higgins also contributed with a shot on target. O'Haodha was active offensively, registering two shots, one of which was on goal. Kit, in a defensive role, recorded two saves while facing four shots.
In their next game, D'Youville will host Mercy University on Saturday, Nov. 1, in Buffalo, N.Y. The matchup is set to begin at noon.
