BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville played to a scoreless draw against Daemen College on Tuesday at Dobson Field. Both teams managed five shots on goal, with D'Youville's goalkeeper recording a shutout and making five saves. Despite 11 total shots, D'Youville could not find the back of the net, while their defense held firm against the Wildcats' eight shots.
The first half began with D'Youville actively pressing forward, as
Eleonora Cecchini (San Marino, Fiorentino, Italy Liceo delle Scienze Umane) launched an early shot that was saved by the Wildcats' goalkeeper, in the 9th minute.
Amanda Kit (Markham, Ontario / Bill Crothers SS) maintained a strong presence in goal, denying several attempts by the visiting team, including a key save on Kylie Miranto's strike in the 19th minute. Despite a few off-target attempts by
Hanna Dino (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Saint Paul Catholic) and
Ariana Dandu (Ajax, Ontario / J. Clarke Richardson), D'Youville kept the pressure on the Wildcats' defense. The half concluded with both teams scoreless, heading into the break at 0-0.
The second half commenced with D'Youville pushing to break the deadlock, as
Laoise O'Haodha (Limerick, Ireland Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh) and
Makaylah Higgins (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw) registered early attempts on goal, both missing the mark.
Hannah Fleming (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) continued the offensive effort with another shot going wide right, while
Carsyn Corydon's (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) attempt in the 64th minute was saved by Schultz. Despite multiple offensive efforts from both teams, including a notable save by Kit on a shot from Kaitlyn Wright, neither side was able to capitalize on their opportunities. The half concluded in a scoreless draw, with the scoreboard remaining at 0-0.
Amanda Kit recorded five saves and secured a shutout in 90 minutes of play.
Laoise O'Haodha led the team with four shots and two of those were on goal. Cecchini managed to keep pressure on the opposing defense by converting her only shot into a shot on goal. Corydon contributed by also shooting once and ensuring it was on target.
D'Youville will travel to Rockville Centre, N.Y., to face Molloy University in a contest on October 25 at 3 p.m.
