BUFFALO, N.Y. – Starting their 2025 portion of the season, the D'Youville University men's basketball team fell to Frostburg State University by a score of 83-58 Friday evening.
The Saints (2-11) were led by
TI Scruggs (Huntsville, Ala./Hazel Green) with 16 points with
Jordan Turner (Houston, Texas/Sunrise Christian) adding 15 points.
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) led the way on the glass with nine boards while also dishing out four assists.
The Bobcats jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead to start the game but back-to-back buckets from the Saints quickly made it a 10-8 game at the 15-minute mark of the half. Saints got baskets from
Trayton Trice (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) and
Jaylin Simmons (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) to trim the lead to one possession. FSU got hot right after that, opening the game up to lead 45-19 with just over three minutes until the break. The Bobcats used a 12-0 run to garner the lead and took a 50-27 lead into the break.
Coming out of the break, FSU maintain their lead, but the Saints fought back, going on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 15 with 10 minutes left in regulation. During the run started with a three-pointer from Scruggs and was closed out by a three-pointer from
Elisha Warren (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven). The Bobcats retook the momentum to gain a 22-point lead. One last effort for D'Youville came late in the half as they were able to cut the lead to 15 with Scruggs knocking down another three-pointer but the valiant effort would fall short.
On the night, The Saints went 23-for-52 (44.2 percent) from the floor while the Bobcats went 26-for-68 (38.2 percent) from the field. FSU held the slight edge on the glass, grabbing 44 rebounds to DYU's 38 boards.
The Saints will return to action next Friday, January 10th, when they resume conference play at Queens College. Tip is set for 5 p.m.
