BUFFALO, N.Y. – Playing their first home conference game of the 2025 portion of the season, the D'Youville University men's basketball team defeated Roberts Wesleyan College by a score of 86-80 in a double-overtime thriller.
Snapping an 11-game skid, the Saints (3-14, 1-7 ECC) were powered behind
Elisha Warren's (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) double-double where he scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) also had a solid game for the black and red, scoring 19 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.
Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y./IMG Academy) also came up in the clutch, scoring 12 points including an and-one in double-overtime to help put the game away.
It was a battle from the start of the game with neither team gaining more than a two-possession advantage in the first half of action. D'Youville had a lead as big as four points on numerous occasions but the Redhawks would keep pace. For Roberts, the saw their lead grow to as many as six points thanks in part to scoring the last nine points in the half to take a 37-31 lead into the break.
Coming out of halftime, Roberts grew their lead to eight points, but the Saints weren't backing down. D'Youville would trim the Redhawks lead to one possession multiple times but could not retake the lead. It wasn't until the 2:34 mark of the second half before the Saints got the lead back thanks to a bucket from Moore to make it 63-62. A free throw from Moore and a basket from Hutchins helped DYU take a 66-62 lead with under two minutes left. The Redhawks made a three-pointer to cut into the deficit, but
TI Scruggs (Huntsville, Ala./Hazel Green) responded with a basket to make it a two-point game. Roberts tied the game up with 19 seconds left to send the game into extra time.
After a stalemate in the first overtime period where both teams score five points each, the Saints outscored Roberts 14-8 in the second overtime to help get the win. Up one with a minute left to play, Hutchins drove the lane to get the layup and was fouled on the play. Hutchins cashed in the and-one opportunity to help make it 84-80 with 17 seconds left. Scruggs salted the game away late, making a pair of free throws.
DYU went 31-for-78 (39.7 percent) from the field while RWU went 24-for-60 (40.0 percent) from the floor. D'Youville dominated the glass, grabbing 61 rebounds to Roberts' 29.
