BUFFALO - The D'Youville University women's tennis team dropped their home opener to the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday by a score of 7-0.
At first doubles, the Saints' tandem of
Kseniya Zhdanok (Minsk, Belarus) and
Mina Randjelovic (Paracin, Serbia) gave the Firebirds all they could handle, but fell in a tiebreaker 7-4. DYU's second doubles pairing of
Yuliia Kashtelian (Lviv, Ukraine) and
Maria Campisi (Caracas, Venezuela) and third doubles pairing of
Paola Ermina (San Sebastian, Spain) and
Yelizaveta Prokopenko both dropped their matches by scores of 6-1.
As the match moved to singles, Randjelovic and Kashtelian each took the first set at second and third singles, respectively. However, Randjelovic ended up falling in three sets 6-2, 6-7, 5-10. Kashtelian also was bested in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 7-10. At first singles, Zhdanok hung tough but was defeated by a score of 6-3, 6-2. At fifth singles, Ermina was defeated 6-1, 6-1. Campisi and Prokopenko both fell by scores of 6-0, 6-0 at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
D'Youville will look to bounce back on Sunday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan University at 11:00 a.m.
