Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pair of Goals from Richardson Lifts Saints to First Victory of the Season

JOHNSTOWN, PA – The D'Youville University men's soccer defeated the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 2-0 on Wednesday, putting an end to their winless drought.

Shawn Richardson (Thailand, Sweden) scored both goals for the Saints, with the first one marking his first collegiate goal. Goalkeeper Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded three saves and his first career shutout.

DYU didn't see their first scoring chance until the 16th minute, when senior Charlie Stewart (Aberdeen, Sweden) got a shot off, but it was blocked.

In the 36th minute, freshman Omar Daoudi (South Burlington, Vt.) and freshman Max Trushell (Canberra, Australia) each got shots off, but neither could find the back of the net. Daoudi got another shot off in the 42nd minute but couldn't convert and the game went to halftime tied at zero.

In the 50th minute, after the Saints drew a penalty in the box, Richardson converted the penalty kick to put DYU in front 1-0.

Eight minutes later, Richardson struck again, putting the game on ice with his second goal of the game, a beautiful strike that found the top right corner, with the assist coming from senior Paulo Carvalho.

The Saints saw a couple more opportunities to extend their lead, with freshman Frederick Balmforth (Oslo, Norway) getting a shot on goal in the 73rd minute and Stewart putting one on goal in the 75th minute, but neither could convert, and DYU went on to secure the 2-0 win.

D'Youville will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Mercy University to take on the Mavericks at 12:00 p.m.
