PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Starting the first of a three-game road trip, the D'Youville University women's soccer team was downed by Lake Erie College by a score of 4-0 Saturday evening.
The Saints (0-3-1) were led by
Makaylah Higgins (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) with two shots on goal with four other player each having a look at net.
The Storm got on the board in the third minute of play to take the early 1-0 lead. Higgins looked to draw even in the 17th minute but was turned away. Higgins had another opportunity one minute later but her shot attempt was rejected.
Jeslyn-Brooke Vallesteros (Aiea, Hawaii/Moanalua) also had a look in the 20th minute but was also denied.
LEC got their second goal of the game in the 30th minute to take the 2-0 lead. The Storm pushed their lead to three in the 39th minute to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
Ella Hurrle (Jordan Station, Ontario/Eden) and
Manta Socada (Helsinki, Finland/Deutshe Schule Helsinki) had looks in the 51st and 52nd minute to get the Saints on the board but both shots were turned away.
Hanna Dino (Niagara Falls, Ontario/Saint Paul Catholic) had a look at the net in the 70th minute of play but was denied.
Lake Erie added their final goal of the game in the 89th minute.
Katie Liljenquist (Salt Lake City, Utah) went the distance in net, making four saves on the night.
DYU will head back out to Ohio on Tuesday, September 17th, as they face Malone University at 2 p.m.
