CALIFORNIA, PA – The D'Youville University men's soccer team was defeated in a close 1-0 loss to California University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

The Saints outshot the Vulcans fifteen to four, but it was California who was able to find the back of the net. DYU goalkeeper
Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, Mo.) faced just two shots on goal, tallying one save.

The first shot of the game from both sides was the lone goal scored in the contest, as the Vulcans snuck one past Solorio in the 10
th minute to go ahead 1-0.

The Saints' first shot of the match came in the 21
st minute, as freshman
Omar Daoudi's shot
(South Burlington, Vt.) was denied.

Shawn Richardson (Thailand, Sweden) both got good looks in the 30
th minute, but neither could find the back of the net.

Richardson saw another scoring opportunity in the final minute of the first half, but he was turned away by the Vulcans' goalkeeper, and the Saints went to the locker room trailing 1-0.

nd minute, DYU saw a pair of scoring chances as senior
Sean Burke (Coventry, England) put a shot on goal that was saved, and Daoudi had his shot blocked.

th minute, Daoudi and
Frederick Balmforth (Oslo, Norway) peppered the California goalkeeper with three shots, but all three were denied.

DYU's final chance came in the 89
th minute, when junior
Asier Fernandez (Betera, Spain) got a header on goal, but it was smothered by the Vulcans to clinch the 1-0 win.

D'Youville will be back home on Friday, when they host Saint Michael's College at Dobson Field at 4:00 p.m.
