BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team faced non-conference opponent Malone University at home on Tuesday afternoon. The Saints won game one in walk off fashion 5-4 and fell 8-4 in game two.
Game One – D'Youville University 5 vs Malone University 4
Game one was a battle form the start after Malone got on the scoreboard first going up 1-0 in the top of the first.
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) walked to lead off the bottom of the first and immediately stole second.
Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) doubled her in to tie the game at one before the end of the first inning. The Saints played shutdown defense in the top of the second and added another run in the bottom of the inning following an infield single from Przybysz to take the 2-1 lead.
The Saints kept the offense rolling scoring two more in the bottom of the third after
Cassidy Daves (Blanco, TX / Blanco) and
Ava Miller (Elma, N.Y. / St. Mary's) both doubled to each score a runner and give the Saints the 4-1 lead. Malone fought back in the top of the fifth scoring two runs to only trail by one. The Pioneers would tie the game in the top of the seventh at four. Przybysz continued to shine at the plate and led off the bottom of the seventh with an infield single and stole second.
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) moved Przybysz over to third and
Lauren Booth (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) came up with her second walk-off hit of the season after singling to right field and scoring Przybysz to give the Saints the 5-4 win in game one.
Game Two – D'Youville University 4 vs Malone University 8
Malone took the 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second following a homerun and tacked one two more runs before the end of the inning to go up 5-0. The Saints got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth following a single from
Anna Chapman (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca East) and a Pioneers error. Malone kept their foot on the gas and added two more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 7-2. As game play continued, the Pioneers would add one more run in the top of the eighth to bring the score to 8-2.
The Saints fought back on offense in the bottom of the seventh.
Mia Trietley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frederick Law Olmsted) singled to score one run and Booth reached on an error to score one more before the end of the inning. The Saints would fall 8-4 to Malone University in game two.
