NIAGARA FALLS, NY – The D'Youville University baseball team notched an exciting 9-6 comeback win against Queens College on Sunday to take three out of four games from the Knights this weekend.
Â
Queens drew first blood, bringing across a run against Saints' starter
Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) in the top of the first to take a 1-0 advantage.
Â
DYU got a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the second after
Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario) singled and
Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.) walked, but they were unable to score.
Â
The Knights tacked on one more run on two hits in the top of the third to extend their lead to 2-0. The Saints got one back in the bottom half after
Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) and
Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) singled and Morris reached on a fielder's choice to bring in their first run.
Â
Queens brought across a run on two hits in the top of the fourth to go back up by two. In the bottom half, Boucher reached on an error,
Dillon Crook (Liverpool, N.Y.) walked, and Dzimian reached on a fielder's choice to set up a two-run single from Hollins that knotted the game up at 3-3.
Â
In the top of the sixth, a two-out single brought in three runs for Queens as the Knights took a 6-3 lead and chased Morris from the game.
Â
The score remained 6-3 until the bottom of the eighth, when the Saints started to rally.
Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.) and Boucher both singled and Nowak walked to load the bases. With one out, Crook drew a bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to 6-4. Next up was Dzimian, who chopped a ground ball to third, but the Knights' third baseman threw the ball away to bring in two runs and tie the game at 6-6. Hollins then ripped a liner that the first baseman couldn't handle and DYU now led 7-6. With two outs,
Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.) ripped a double down the right field line to tack on two more runs and make it 9-6.
Â
Sam Worthen
(Guelph, Ontario) retired the Knights in order in the top of the ninth to notch his eighth save of the season and secure the series win for the Saints.
