Parzych Tosses a Shutout in Game Two of Split Against Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team split a pair of games against ECC Conference opponent Queens College on Saturday afternoon. The Saints fell 9-4 in game one, but after a stellar outing from Parzych in the circle, the Saints defeated the Knights in eight innings 1-0 in game two.

Game One – D'Youville University 4 at Queens College 9

Gameplay started even between the Saints and Knights, but the Knights took the 1-0 lead scoring in the bottom of the second. The Saints were quick to strike back tying the game at one in the top of the third inning after Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) led off with an infield single and quickly stole second. Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) put the ball in play and moved Przybysz to third. Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) has been consistent all season and proved herself again knocking a ingle through the left side to score Przybysz.

Queens retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth after scoring one. Again, D'Youville was ready to respond and took the 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. Ally Beardi (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Mary's) and Emily Przybysz both found their way on base to lead off the inning. Laura Beck reached first on a scoring error, allowing Beardi and Przybysz to score two runs for the lead.

The Knights fought back scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 7-3 lead. The Saints threatened in the top of the sixth but were unable to score after leaving runners on second and third. Queens tacked on two more runs to extend their lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the sixth. With their last chance, the Saints crossed one more bringing the final score to 9-4 following a single from Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) to score Przybysz before the game came to an end.

Game Two – D'Youville University 1 at Queens College 0 – 8 Innings

It was a pitcher's battle between the Saints and Knights in game two as both teams were unable to score a run in the first seven innings of play. The Saints threatened in the top of the second after Lauren Booth (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) singled to lead off the inning. Booth made it to third, but the Saints were unable to hit her in before the end of the inning.

As the game continued, the Saints had another shot to score in the top of the seventh. Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) led off the inning with a double and Laura Beck followed behind, bunting for a hit to put runners on first and third. Again, the Saints were unable to get the run in and the game went to extra innings. Emily Przybysz chad a great day at the plate today and continued it with a single on a bunt followed by a stolen base. Halie Furkas came up next and knocked a single to left field to score Przybysz and give the Saints the 1-0 lead. The Knights offense was shut down in the bottom if the inning and the Saints took game two 1-0.

Sarah Parzych (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) was dominant in the circle in her best outing of the season so far. The Junior threw the full eight innings allowing no runs, only giving up four hits, and striking out a season-best nine batters in the win.
