BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Saints Men's Volleyball team played a second game against Saint Francis at the College Center this afternoon falling 3-1 after four sets.

D'Youville University 1 vs Saint Francis University 3 – 19-25, 25-21, 19-25, 21-25
Set One
The match began with a 2-2 tie following a kill from Ian De Wilde (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint), but the Red Flash found their momentum going on a seven-point run to jump up 9-2. Gameplay continued with the Saints working to stay in the set, but the Red Flash extended their lead to 17-7. The Saints slowly worked their way back and after three kills from Kristian Smith (Zebulon, NC / Franklin Academy) and two SFU errors the Saints trailed by 19-12.

The Saints kept working to stay in the game and a final kill from Jacob Malak (Wales, Wisc. / Kettle Moraine) and a SFU error brought the score to 24-19. The Red Flash recorded the last point and took set one 25-19.

Set Two
Saint Francis held momentum going into set two and took the 6-4 lead to start the set. The Saints hit their stride scoring 11 points compared to two points coming from SFU to take the 15-8 lead.

Saint Francis fought back trailing by one as the Saints led 18-17, but an SFU error and back-to-back kills from Ian De Wilde extended the DYU lead to 21-17. Both teams exchanged points until a final error from SFU gave the Saints the 25-21 win in set two.

Set Three
Saint Francis regained control in the third set jumping up 11-6. Kills from Tymek Brzoza (Tychy, Poland / NLO Jastrzebski Wegiel) and Ian De Wilde brought the Saints within two. The Red Flash extended their lead again, going up 20-14. De Wilde and Haven Wankerl (Cross Plains, Wisc. / Middleton) each recorded kills to keep the set alive, but Saint Francis would eventually take it 25-19.

Set Four
The Red Flash did not let up in set four and led 11-5 to start. The Saints recorded a four-point run featuring a kill from Kristian Smith to bring the Saints within two, but Saint Francis continued to hold the close lead until they were ahead 20-17. The Saints never gave up the fight, but Saint Francis took the fourth set 25-21 and the match 3-1.

Saints Stats
The Saints outscored the Red Flash again in digs at 35-27. Ian De Wilde led the Saints offense with 13 kills followed by Tymek Brzoza who recorded 10. Randy Adorno (Bayamon, Puerto Rico / Winter Park) earned 30 digs while Zachary Zian (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) and Kristian Smith recorded seven digs each.

The D'Youville Men's Volleyball team remains home for their final weekend of regular season. The Saints will host Sacred Heart University on Friday, April 12th at 7:00 PM. D'Youville will play Merrimack College on Saturday for Senior Day with the match starting at 4:00 PM.
