Men's Lacrosse Close 2024 Campaign with Loss to No. 5 Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – In their regular season finale, the D'Youville University men's lacrosse team fell to No. 5 Mercy University by a score of 27-8 Sunday afternoon.
 
The Saints (2-14, 1-5 ECC) were led by Brady Ruffalo, (Webster, N.Y.) with a season-high four goals to go along with one assist. Stefano Evan (Vestal, N.Y.) finished with three points (2 goals, 1 assist) with Nick Sholett (Vestal, N.Y.) adding a pair of goals.
 
Jordan Brown (Baltimore, Md.) led the team in groundballs with eight with Cameron Fogarty (Selinsgrove, Pa.) adding four groundballs. Brody Strong (Gores Landing, Ontario) had two caused turnovers to lead the team in the game.
 
Facing a 10-0 deficit in the first quarter, DYU got on the board at the 1:58 mark as Evan found Ruffalo to get the team's first goal on the board. The Mavs added three more goals before goals from Ruffalo and Sholett made it 13-3 with 4:17 left before the break. Mercy tacked on three more goals to take a 16-3 lead into halftime.
 
Coming out of the break, Ruffalo added his third goal of the game to help cut into the deficit. After a 4-0 run by the Mavs, goals by Evan and Sholett made it 20-6 with 7:35 left in the quarter. Mercy was able to increase their lead to 17 before Jake Bush (Lakeview, N.Y.) found Ruffalo for his fourth goal of the game with five seconds left in the third. Evan scored the Saints' last goal of the contest at the 5:07 mark of the fourth quarter.
 
William Nichols (Palmyra, N.Y.) earned the loss in net, making five saves in 25 minutes of action. Reece Eck (Forest Lake, Minn.) say 23 minutes of action in net, making four saves.
