Saints Fall to Queens in Two Hard Fought Games

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team returned to Buffalo for their final weekend of ECC play in the regular season. The Saints fell 9-8 in game one after 12 innings of play and lost 5-1 in game two.
 
Game One – D'Youville University 8 vs Queens College 9 – 12 Innings
 
The Knights of Queens College took the lead in game one jumping up 4-0 in the top of the first. Undeterred, the Saints fought back immediately plating three runs in the bottom of the inning. Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) and Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) both started the inning with singles and Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) reached on a fielders' choice. Lauren Booth (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) reached on an error to score Przybysz followed by Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) who singled to score Furkas. Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) singled with two outs to score Booth and bring the Saints within one at 4-3.
 
The Knights brought back the offense in the top of the second scoring three more to expand their lead and the core held until the bottom of the third when the Saints crossed one more across the plate after Lauren Booth doubled and Isabelle Mancino singled her in. The Saints added two more runs in the next inning after another single from Lauren Booth knocked in two and brought the score to 7-6. The Saints took the lead for the first time in the game at 8-7 after Przybysz singled to the pitcher and both Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) and Isabella Mancino scored on a throwing error.
 
Queens tied at eight in the top of the sixth and game play continued into extra innings with neither team being able to cross a run. Sarah Parzych (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) entered the game to pitch in the top of the seventh and held the Knights scoreless for five innings, but the Knights finally capitalized in the top of the 12th inning to score one run and take the game 9-8.
 
Despite the loss in game one, the Saints fought hard recording 17 hits in the game. Mikayla Bush went four for five with two walks and recorded her 100th career hit with her third hit of the day in the bottom of the eighth.
 
Game Two – D'Youville University 1 vs Queens College 5
 
Queens kept the offense rolling into game two and immediately scored three runs to start off the game. The Saints were held scoreless, and the Knights added another run in the top of the second. The Saints manufactured a run in the bottom of the third after Emily Przybysz reached on a fielders' choice and Gianna Adamo came up with a big triple to score Przybysz.
 
The score held at 4-1 until he Knights added a final run in the top of the sixth to bring their lead to 5-1. The Saints worked to stay in the game but were unable to cross a run and the Knights would take game two, 5-1.
 
Up Next
The Saints are back home for their final doubleheader of the season tomorrow, Saturday, April 27th.  Game one is set to begin at 11:00 AM against Molloy University with a Senior Day ceremony set to begin at 10:40 AM.
