BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team played their final two games of their 2024 season on Saturday, April 27
th with a Senior Day doubleheader against Molloy University. The Saints fell 13-1 in five innings in game one and lost 6-1 in game two.
Game One – D'Youville University 1 vs Molloy University 13 – 5 Innings
After celebrating the four D'Youville seniors as part of their senior day ceremony on Saturday morning, the Lions took an early lead scoring two runs in the top of the first. By the time the game reached the middle of the fourth inning, the Lions had extended their lead to 8-0. In the bottom of the fourth, the Saints found some offense after
Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) doubled to right field.
Lauren Booth (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) reached first next on an error to right field and advanced to second allowing
Sophia Arno to score for the Saints.
The next inning, the Lions added five more runs to bring the score to 13-1 and with the Saints unable to answer, the Lions would take game one after five innings.
Game Two – D'Youville University 1 vs Molloy University 6
Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) started game two in the circle for the Saints and shut down the Lions for the first two innings of game two. The Lions managed to score on in the top of the third and then added five more runs in the top of the fifth. The Saints looked to threaten on offense in the bottom of the first inning after
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) doubled, but D'Youville was unable to produce a run.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Ava Miller (Elma, N.Y. / St. Mary's) walked, and
Ashleigh Stewart (Brooklyn, N.Y. / John Dewey) followed behind with a single to right field to put runners on first and second.
Mia Trietley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frederick Law Olmsted) singled to load the bases and
Anna Chapman (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca East) kept the momentum going by knocking a ball up the middle to score one and put the Saints on the board at 6-1.
Kendal Lehnen held the Lions offense in the final inning, but the scoring would be done for the Saints and the Lions would take game two 6-1 to end the 2024 season for the Saints.
