BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team (6-18, 1-5 ECC) finished a Saturday doubleheader against Mercy University 1-1 at home. The Saints fell 10-1 after six innings in game but came back to defeat the Mavericks 5-4 in walk-off fashion in game two to earn their first ECC Conference victory of the season.
Game One – D'Youville University 1 vs Mercy University 10 – 6 Innings
The Mavericks set the tone in game one plating five runs in the top of the first to take the lead. The Saints scattered two hits across the first two innings but were unable to get a run across the plate and the Mavericks tacked on two more runs in the top of the third to go up 7-0.
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) walked to lead off the bottom of the third, stole second, and advanced to third following a throwing error from the Mercy catcher.
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) followed behind hitting a groundball to shortstop that scored Przybysz to make the score 7-1. The Mavericks managed to score three more in the top of the sixth and with the Saints unable to respond, the Mavericks would take game one 10-1.
Game Two – D'Youville University 5 vs Mercy University 4
The Saints took control in game two right from the start. After shutting down the Mercy offense in the top of the first, the Saints took the lead in the bottom of the inning.
Gianna Adamo led off with a walk and
Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) doubled to score Adamo.
Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) followed Furkas with another double to put runners on second and third.
Mia Trietley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frederick Law Olmsted) came up with a big single to centerfield to score both Bush and Furkas and put the Saints up 3-0.
The Saints would hold the lead, but the Mavericks slowly started to work their way back into the game after scoring one run in both the third and fourth inning, then tying the game at 3 in the fifth. Staying consistent, the Mavericks took the 4-3 lead after scoring one run in the sixth. The Saints shut down the Mavericks in the top of the seventh and came up to bat with their last chance to score in the bottom of the inning.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Adamo doubled to left field and Furkas followed behind with an infield single to put runners on first and third.
Ally Beardi (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Mary's) pinch ran for Furkas and stole second to put two runners into scoring position for the Saints.
Mikayla Bush drilled a deep fly ball to centerfield to score Adamo and tie the game at four and
Lauren Booth followed behind with a ground rule double to score Beardi and walk off the game giving the Saints the 5-4 win and their first conference victory of the season.

The D'Youville University Softball team is back in action on Tuesday, April 2nd for a regional doubleheader against the College of Saint Rose. The Saints will head to Albany, N.Y. for the 12:00 Pm and 2:00 PM doubleheader before continuing ECC play next weekend.
