Box Score 2 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team dropped a paid of games to the College of Staten Island on Friday afternoon. The Saints lost 10-7 in game one and 8-6 in game two.
Game One – D'Youville University 7 at the College of Staten Island 10
Gameplay started even between the Dolphins and Saints, but the Saints found their way onto the scoreboard first plating one run in the top of the third after
Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) led off the inning with a walk and stole second.
Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) reached on error by the centerfielder and scored Arno to put the Saints ahead. The CSI Dolphins came back in the bottom of the third plating six runs to take the lead.
The Saints continued to work their way back plating three runs in the top of the fifth. Arno led off with a double and
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) followed behind with a single to left field. Furkas knocked Arno in, and
Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Przybysz for the Saints third run of the game.
Ava Miller (Elma, N.Y. / St. Mary's) singled to center field to score
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) who walked earlier in the inning to bring the score to 6-4.
The Dolphins scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 10-4. The Saints worked to make a comeback in the top of the seventh scoring three runs to bring the score to 10-7, but it was not enough to come all the way back and the Dolphins would take game one 10-7.
Game Two – D'Youville University 6 at the College of Staten Island 8
The Dolphins continued their momentum into game two taking the 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Anna Chapman (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca East) led off the top of the third with a single and
Ally Beardi (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Mary's) followed behind with a single to rightfield scoring both Chapman and herself on an error by the right fielder to bring the score to 3-2.
The Saints took the lead in the top of the fifth after
Laura Beck doubled and
Lauren Booth walked to put runners on first and second for the Saints.
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) came up big for the Saints knocking in
Laura Beck with a single to tie the game at three.
Mia Trietley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frederick Law Olmsted) scored on a wild pitch and Adamo scored the fifth run for the Saints on the same play following a throwing error from the catcher.
Again, the Dolphins came right back to tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth. The Saints retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth going up 6-5, but the Dolphins were ready with another answer in the bottom of the sixth scoring three to go up 8-6.
With their last chance to come back in the top of the seventh, Adamo led off the inning with a single down the left field line, but that would be the end of the Saints offense and CSI would win game two 8-6.

The D'Youville University Softball team is back home for a weekend of ECC play. The Saints will take on St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, March 29th at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. D'Youville will then play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30th against Mercy University.
