BUFFALO, N.Y. – Continuing their homestand to start the season, the D'Youville University women's lacrosse team fell to Slippery Rock University Saturday afternoon by a score of 18-3.
The Saints (1-2) were led by
Sydney Gordon (Hamburg, N.Y.) with two points (1 goal, 1 assist) with
Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y.) and
Sam Newlin (Austin, Texas) each adding one goal.
Jillian Bernas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and
Lauren Parker (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the team in draw control, winning three each.
Three players led the way with two groundballs each with Newlin and Bernas each causing a turnover.
The Rock opened the game on a 9-0 run before Gordon halted the run, getting DYU on the board at the 11:53 mark in the second quarter. SRU added another goal before Handley scored the woman-up goal to make it 10-2 going into the break.
After allowing three goals to start the half, Newlin made it a 13-3 game off the assist from Gordon.
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y.) went the distance in net, making six saves.
The Saints will be back in action this Tuesday, March 5th, as they host Mercyhurst University at 4 p.m.
