WILMINGTON, DE – The D'Youville University baseball team dropped the series finale to Goldey-Beacom on Sunday by a score of 8-7 as the Lightning took three out of four against the Saints this weekend.

Goldey-Beacom got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Saints' starter
Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) surrendered a two-run home run.

Ethan Hammond (Oakville, Ontario) tried to get something going for DYU in the top of the second after a single and stolen base, but the next two batters were unable to bring him in. Goldey-Beacom would tack on another run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-0.

Morris was able to settle in the next couple of innings, retiring the Lightning in order in the third and fourth and punching out three.

In the top of the fifth, 3B
Blaise Kolbert (Lancaster, N.Y.) led off with a single and moved into scoring position after swiping second, but he was unable to score. Goldey-Beacom extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the inning with their second home run of the day.

Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) started off the sixth inning with a double down the right field line. Morris followed with a single that moved Hollins to third. Hollins would come in to score on a wild pitch to get DYU on the board. 1B
Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.) singled to load the bases. Hammond followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth, the Lightning struck again with a three-run home run to increase their lead to 7-2.

The Saints got one back in the top of the seventh thanks to a sacrifice fly from Morris to make it 7-3. In the top of the eighth, Hammond led off with a single. Kolbert then reached on a fielder's choice and SS
Craig Oliver (Fredericton, New Brunswick) reached on an error to put runners on second and third for the Saints. 2B
Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) then singled to third to score Kolbert and make it 7-4.

After Goldey-Beacom scored one in the bottom of the eighth, DYU headed to the ninth down 8-4. With one away, Simpson singled through the left slide and moved to second on a wild pitch. Next up was Hammond, who collected his third hit of the day with a single up the middle. Kolbert followed with an RBI double to make it 8-5. Oliver then brought in two with a base hit up the middle to cut it to 8-7. However, DYU couldn't bring across the tying-run and Goldey-Beacom was able to hold on for the win.

D'Youville will be back in action next weekend, when they play their conference opener at #12 Molloy University on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
