WINTER HAVEN, FL. – The D'Youville University Softball team played their final doubleheader in Florida falling 13-7 to the University of New Haven in game one and defeating American international College 7-3 in game two.
Game One – D'Youville University 7 vs University of New Haven 13
The Chargers got on the board first scoring four in the top of the first inning. The Saints came up in the bottom of the inning with both
Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) and
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) both reached to put runners on first and second base.
Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) came up big with a triple to left centerfield to score both runners and make the score 4-2.
New Haven would answer with three more runs in the top of the second to bring the score to 7-2.
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) led off the bottom of the second with a single and scored the Saints third run off a single from Furkas.
Laura Beck knocked a sacrifice fly ball to left field to score another run for the Saints in the inning bringing the score to 7-4.
As gameplay continued, the Saints gained ground in the bottom of the fourth.
Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park),
Laura Beck, and
Mikayla Bush all singled to load the bases.
Lauren Booth (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) singled to right centerfield knocking in all three runners to record her 100th career hit and tie the game.
The Chargers had some fight in them and posted five more runs in the top of the fifth and one more in the top of the sixth and the Saints were unable to answer leaving New Haven to take the 13-7 win.
Game Two – D'Youville University 7 vs American International College 3
The Saints took control early in game two after
Laura Beck reached on an error in the top of the first and
Gianna Adamo singled her in to put the Saints up 1-0. The Saints tacked on three more runs in the top of the second to go up 4-0.
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) singled following a walk from
Ally Beardi (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Mary's) and
Halie Furkas doubled them both in.
Laura Beck found her way on from another AIC error and scored Furkas before the end of the inning.
Beardi walked in her next at bat as well and
Anna Chapman (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca East) singled her in to put the Saints up 5-0 in the top of the third. AIC knocked one run in during the bottom of the third, but the Saints got that run back after a sacrifice fly from
Ashleigh Stewart (Brooklyn, N.Y. / John Dewey) scored
Laura Beck. AIC would score one in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the seventh and the Saints would score their final run in the top of the seventh after Przybysz singled and scored off a ball hit by
Laura Beck.
Kendal Lehnen (Sherill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) went the distance in the circle only allowing three runs and striking out five in the 7-3 win.

The D'Youville University Softball team heads back to Buffalo for a handful of regional games before they move to ECC play stating next weekend. The Saints will travel to Mercyhurst on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM.
