Saints Fall to Bentley and IUP in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, FL. – The D'Youville University Softball team dropped both games in their Thursday doubleheader losing 12-6 to Bentley University and 13-2 to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
 
Game One – D'Youville University 6 vs Bentley University 12
 
Gameplay started even between D'Youville and Bentley in game one, but the Saints got on the board first scoring three runs in the top of the third. Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) led off the inning with a double to right centerfield. Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) walked, and Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Przybysz scored on a wild pitch to put the Saints on the board. Ava Miller (Elma, N.Y. / St. Mary's) found her way on base with a walk and Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) knocked in two more runs with a single to right centerfield.
 
Bentley was unable to answer in the bottom of the third and the Saints plated one more in the top of the fourth. Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) reached her 100th career hit in the top of the fourth and scored D'Youville's fourth run following a single from Halie Furkas.
 
Bentley struck back in the bottom of the fourth scoring eight runs off of nine hits to take the 8-4 lead. The Saints got two back in the top of the fifth following RBIs from Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) and Gianna Adamo, but Bentley would score four more insurance runs and take game one 12-6.
 
Game Two – D'Youville University 2 vs Indiana University of Pennsylvania 13 – 5 Innings
IUP got off to a fast start plating five runs in the first inning and then adding four more in the top of the second. The Saints got one back after Emily Przybysz reached on a fielder's choice and moved around the bases, scoring off a single from Furkas.
 
Mia Trietley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frederick Law Olmsted) came up big in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun to left centerfield to bring the score to 9-2.
 
IUP managed to cross three more runs in the top of the fourth and with the Saints unable to answer, they would fall 13-2 in game two after five innings.
 
Up Next
The D'Youville University Softball team plays their final doubleheader in Florida tomorrow before heading back to Buffalo. The Saints will play another game against the University of New Haven at 9:00 AM followed by a game against American International College at 11:15 AM.
