Softball Splits Day Three of the Spring Games

AUBURNDALE, FL. – The D'Youville University Softball team had their strongest showing of their Florida trip so far following a close 3-1 loss against the University of New Haven and a big 3-2 win over Bloomfield College in game two to give the Saints their first win of the week.

Game One – D'Youville University 1 vs the University of New Haven 3

The Saints came ready to play in their third day of action at The Spring Games. Both teams fought to get a run across the plate, but it was the Saints who would step up first in the bottom of the third. Halie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) came up big with a single to center field and Ava Miller (Elma, N.Y. / St. Mary's) followed behind after reaching on an error to put runners on first and second base. Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) came up with two outs with a single to center field to score Furkas and put the Saints up 1-0.

New Haven fought back in the top of the fourth scoring one to tie up the game. It was not until the top of the fifth that New Haven would tack on another run to take the 2-1 lead. In the top of the seventh, the Chargers would cross one more across home plate following a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Saints would fight in the bottom of the seventh loading the bases but were unable to score leaving the final at 3-1.

Kendal Lehnen (Sherill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) had one of her strongest outings of the year throwing the complete 7.0 innings in the circle. The Freshman recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts and only allowed four hits.

Game Two – D'Youville University 3 vs Bloomfield College 2
The Saints hit their stride in game two. After three scoreless innings between both teams, the Saints got on the board in the top of the fourth. Gianna Adamo reached first on an error by the shortstop and Lauren Booth (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) singled to left field to put runners on first and second. Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) tagged another single to left field to score one and Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) placed a ball deep in the infield to score the Saints second run of the game.

Much like in the first game, Bloomfield was ready to fight back getting two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie it up. The Saints threatened to take the lead in the top of the fifth, but it was not till the sixth inning that the Saints would retake the lead. Lauren Booth led off the inning with a solo homerun over the left centerfield fence to give the Saints the 3-2 lead they would carry to through the end of the game.

Lauren Booth started the game in the circle for the Saints throwing 4.0 complete innings only allowing 2 hits. Sarah Parzych (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) came in as relief throwing the last three innings only allowing one hit and getting the win for D'Youville.
