Saints Fall to Nationally Ranked Indianapolis and Regional Opponent Saint Anselm

AUBURNDALE, FL. – The D'Youville University Softball team had a tough day of competition falling to the University of Indianapolis 8-0 who is currently ranked eighth in the nation and 6-1 to regional opponent Saint Anselm in game two.

Game One – D'Youville University 0 vs University of Indianapolis 8 – 5 Innings

The Saints fell behind early in game one as UIndy's first three batters all crossed the plate in the first inning to go up 3-0. The Greyhounds continued to excel at the plate scoring three more in the bottom of the second and would go on to score two more in the eighth to take the mercy win and Jayden Casebolt on the Greyhounds would record a five-inning perfect game.

Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) threw the full four innings in the circle for the Saints striking out two.

Game Two – D'Youville University 1 vs Saint Anselm 6
The Saints again fell behind in game two after the Saint Anselm Hawks got on top 4-0 halfway through the second inning. The Saints were putting the bat on the ball, but were unable to find a hole until Ally Beardi (Buffalo, N.Y. / St.Mary's) beat out an infield hit for a single and stole second before the bottom of the second came to an end.

Sarah Parzych (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) pitched the complete game for the Saints and was dominant in the top of the third retiring all three Hawks batters in order. Hallie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) led off the bottom of the third with a single to left field, but again the Saints were unable to get her across the plate.

The Hawks added one more in the top of the fourth and their sixth and final run in the top of the sixth to go up 6-0 on the Saints. With their last chance in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) started the rally after reaching first on a single to second base. Furkas followed next with another single to second base and Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) singled to left center to load the bases and Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) earned the timely walk allowing the Saints to score their first run of the day. The momentum stopped there and the Saints would fall 6-1 to Saint Anselm in their second and final game of the day.
