Men's Lacrosse Downed by AIC at Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. – In their second game of the Cortland Classic, the D'Youville University men's lacrosse team fell to host American International College Sunday afternoon by a score of 18-5.
 
The Saints (1-6) were led offensively by Stefano Evan (Vestal, N.Y.) with three points (1 goal, 2 assists) while Luciano Gonzalez (Coquitlam, British Columbia) added two goals. Tyler Vohwinkel (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Jake Bush (Lakeview, N.Y.) each added a goal in the effort. Jordan Brown (Baltimore, Md.) had a solid outing, winning 17-of-27 (63.0 percent) and grabbing 10 groundballs.
 
The defense was led by four Saints who each grabbed three groundballs.
 
Facing a 3-0 deficit early in the first quarter, DYU was able to get one back with Evan finding Bush for the team's first goal at the 6:36 mark. The Yellow Jackets got two goals back before Gonzalez made it 5-2 off the dish from Brown at the 13:42 mark of the second quarter. AIC made it a 7-2 game halfway through the second before Evan found the back of the net to make it 7-3 with 2:58 left before the break. The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more goals to take a 9-3 lead into the half.
 
DYU came out strong out of the break as Gonzalez scored his second goal of the afternoon with Evan getting the assist to make it 9-4 with 12:24 left in the third. The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to eight before Vohwinkel scored a goal with five minutes left in the third to make it 12-5.
 
William Nichols (Palmyra, N.Y.) saw a bulk of the time in net, making 19 saves. Reece Eck (Forest Lake, Minn.) saw action for five minutes, making a pair of saves.
 
The Saints will return home this Wednesday, March 13th, as they host Malone University at 4 p.m.
