BUFFALO – The D'Youville University women's basketball team defeated the College of Staten Island on Friday in an 81-54 rout.
 
Brianne Moxley (Penfield, N.Y.) was on fire against the Dolphins, scoring a career-high 25 points on 5-11 shooting from three and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds. Jaelyn Vleer-Elliott turned in another solid performance, scoring 16 points and tying a season-high with seven rebounds. Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) had a solid performance as well, scoring 11 points, grabbing five rebounds, and recording four steals.
 
The Saints got out to a quick 4-0 lead off a layup and baseline jumper from Vleer-Elliott. A pair of layups from Moxley and Jankovic gave DYU a 12-7 edge with 4:32 left in the first quarter. After Staten Island tied it up at 16, Stella Mollica (Shillington, Pa.) poured in a mid-range jumper to give the Saints an 18-16 advantage heading into the second quarter.
 
After the Dolphins took the lead in the second quarter, Moxley and Vleer-Elliott sank a pair of close-range shots to put D'Youville back in front 24-21 with 6:13 to go. A 9-3 run from CSI put them ahead 30-27 with two minutes remaining until halftime. Isabella Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Moxley both drained threes to put D'Youville back on top 35-30 heading into halftime.
 
The Saints took control in the second half, distancing themselves from CSI with an 18-0 run to start the third quarter. A three-pointer from Moxley kickstarted the run, followed by layups from Vleer-Elliott, Jankovic, and Sofie, Fuglsang (Oberanven, Luxembourg). Jankovic then sank a three-pointer to make it 47-30. A mid-range jumper from Moxley made it 53-30 D'Youville. The Dolphins did not score a point until there was just 3:20 left in the quarter. Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) poured in a three-pointer as the third quarter came to an end, giving the Saints a 61-41 lead.
 
A three-pointer and close-range jumper from Moxley gave DYU a 68-43 lead with 7:43 to go in the final quarter. A layup from Fuglsang kept the lead at 25 with six minutes to play. Layups from Mollica and Carla Torrubia Cano (Melilla, Spain) made it 76-54 with just over a minute to go. Moxley bookended an 11-0 Saints run with her fifth three-pointer of the day, as D'Youville closed out the Dolphins.
 
The Saints will be back in action on Sunday, when they welcome cross-town rival Daemen University to the Palace on Porter at 1:00 p.m.
