STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's basketball team dropped a tightly contested matchup to the College of Staten Island on Sunday by a score of 68-61.

Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) scored a team-high 15 points and recorded four steals.
Sofie Fuglsang (Oberanven, Luxembourg) turned in a solid performance with 13 points on 3-5 shooting from beyond the arc and dished out a team-high four assists.
Stella Mollica (Shillington, Pa.) also had a double-digit scoring performance with 11 points.

The Saints came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, taking a 9-2 lead off a three-pointer from
Brianne Moxley (Penfield, N.Y.) and a pair of three-pointers from Fuglsang. A layup from
Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) made it 11-4 DYU with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Saints held the Dolphins to six points in the first quarter as they headed to the second quarter with a 13-6 lead.

A layup from Fuglsang kept the Saints' lead at seven in the early going of the second quarter. After CSI scored five straight to cut the lead to two, Jankovic drained a three-pointer to make it 20-15 with 5:27 remaining. Jankovic would then convert a pair of layups to extend DYU's lead to eight with 3:29 left in the quarter. A seven-footer from Jankovic would send the Saints to halftime with a 28-23 lead.

Four consecutive points from Mollica to open the second half made it 32-25. Six straight points from the Dolphins brought them within one, but a layup from Moxley and a three-pointer from
Isabella Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) put the Saints ahead by seven. Fuglsang knocked down a three to make it 41-35 with 1:11 left in the third quarter. A pair of free throws from
Jaelyn Vleer-Elliott extended DYU's lead to eight as the game moved to the fourth quarter.

A mid-range jumper from Mollica gave the Saints a ten-point lead in the early stages of the fourth quarter. A layup from Vleer-Elliott followed by two made free throws by Jankovic made it 49-38 DYU with 8:34 to play. Layups from
Mercy Lasu (Innisfil, Canada) and Jankovic made it 53-46 with 6:27 remaining. An ensuing 10-2 run from the Dolphins gave them their first lead of the day with 3:34 to go in the fourth quarter. Jankovic sank two free throws to put the Saints back in front 59-58 with just under two minutes left. However, Staten Island finished the game on a 10-2 run to secure the victory.

D'Youville will be back home next weekend, when they host Mercy University at College Center Gym at 6:00 p.m.
