BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Men's Volleyball team moved to 5-1 overall after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Set One
The Saints controlled the day starting from the first set. With the game tied at 3-3, a kill from Shaun Vattkuzhiyil (Sugar Land. TX/ Elkins) and two Spartans errors gave the Saints the 6-3 lead. After giving up one point to STAC the Saints tacked on five more consecutive points to bring them to a 11-4 lead. The Saints continued to extend their lead, but with the score at 18-9, the Spartans worked to comeback, scoring five in a row to bring the score to 18-14. D'Youville put a stop to the comeback scoring three in a row before the score became 21-15. A Spartan error along with kills from Tymek Brzoza (Tychy Poland / NLO Jastrzebski Wegiel), Randy Adorno (Bayamon, Puerto Rico / Winter Park), and Ian De Wilde (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) gave the Saints the 25-15 win in set one.

Set Two
The second set started much like the first with the Saints jumping out to a 10-4 lead after a Spartan error, three kills from Brzoza and one kill from Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Canada). The Spartans worked to steadily come back, but the Saints offense could not be stopped and after a final kill from Vattakuzhiyil, the Saints would take the second set 25-18.

Set Three
 The third set was the closest of the day with points alternating between the teams until the Saints led 12-11. A kill from Tymek Brzoza and a Spartan error put the Saints up 14-11 and the points would continue to alternate again. With he Saints leading 17-15, the Saints went on a five-point run to jump up 22-15. The Spartans again fought to come back, but a final kill from Vattakuzhiyil wrapped up the match giving the Saints the 25-19 win in set three and the 3-0 win of the match.

Saints Stats
Tymek Brzoza had a strong showing on both sides of the ball today as he recorded 10 kills, five blocks, and two digs while Randy Adorno recorded 27 assists, two aces, and four digs. The Saints as a team recorded 38 kills compared to the Spartans 16. D'Youville also recorded 11 blocks compared to STAC's two.

The D'Youville University Men's Volleyball team is back on the road next weekend for two NEC Conference matchups. The Saints take on Merrimack College on Friday, February 16^th in North Andover, Massachusetts at 7:00PM. The following day, D'Youville will travel to Sacred Heart University for a 7:00 PM matchup.
