BUFFALO, N.Y. – Opening up the 2024 season, the D'Youville University men's lacrosse team fell to Post University by a score of 18-6 Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field.
The Saints (0-1) were led by
Tyler Vohwinkel and
Brady Ruffalo (Webster, N.Y) with two goals each while
Luciano Gonzalez (Coquitlam, British Columbia) and
Carsyn Kent (Whitby, Ontario) each found the back of the net once.
Suman Ramlall (Atlanta, Ga.) and
Tristan Engelhardt (Orlando, Fla.) helped in the offensive effort, record two assists each.
On the defensive end,
Brody Strong (Gores Landing, Ontario) led the way with four groundballs while Engelhardt and Kent each scooped up three each. Strong also led the team with three caused turnovers.
The Eagles opened the game up, scoring eight unanswered goals before DYU scored back-to-back goals to make it 8-2. Kent scored his first collegiate goal off the assists from Ruffalo at the 4:32 mark in the second quarter. Vohwinkel netted the second goal for the Saints, scoring his first collegiate goal off the feed from Ramlall at the 1:37 mark. Posted tacked on two more goals before the break to make it 10-2.
Post came out of the break, scoring a goal but Gonalez got the goal back at the 13:43 mark of the third. The Eagles were able to get that goal back before D'Youville made a run with two-straight goals. Ruffalo scored on the man-up opportunity off the feed from Engelhardt with just over two minutes left in the frame. Vohwinkel made it 12-5 with his second goal off the assist from Ramlall.
Trying to close the gap, DYU tacked on one more goal with Ruffalo capitalizing on another man-up opportunity.
Ryan McInnes (Port Monmouth, N.J.) earned the loss in net, playing 52:55 where he made nine saves on 26 attempts.
Reece Eck (Forest Lake, Minn.) went the rest of the way in net for DYU.
The Eagles held the slight edge in shot attempts, getting off 46 shots to the Saints' 43 attempts. Post also held the slight advantage in faceoffs with 14 won to D'Youville's 13.
The Saints will be back in action next Saturday, February 17th, as they travel to Franklin Pierce University for a 1 p.m. start time.
