MANCHESTER, N.H. – The D'Youville University women's basketball team was defeated by Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday by a score of 77-50.

Junior
Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored a team-high 10 points for the Saints and grabbed four rebounds. Freshman
Allie Hall (Rochester, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high five rebounds and added eight points and freshman
Aliviya Vallone Russell (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored nine points.

After finding themselves in an early deficit, freshman
Samantha Ruhlman (Warren, Pa.) knocked down a three-pointer to make it 16-5 halfway through the first quarter. Senior
Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) buried a close-range jumper in the paint at the 1:53 mark, and DYU went into the second quarter trailing 22-7.

Giancaterino converted a layup and cashed in from beyond the arc to begin the second quarter and trim the Saints' deficit to 22-12. Three consecutive layups from Hall shrank SNHU's lead to seven with 6:05 remaining in the second quarter. Vallone Russell buried a pair of three-pointers to make it 33-24 SNHU with 1:36 left in the half. However, six straight points from SNHU extended their lead back to fifteen as the game went into halftime.

Giancaterino knocked down a three-pointer to start the third quarter and make it a twelve-point game. Sophomore
Ava Pearson (Colonie, N.Y.) knocked down a three of her own to make it 44-30 at the 6:54 mark. A three-pointer from Vallone Russell kept DYU within thirteen with 3:43 remaining in the period. However, SNHU increased their lead up to 60-37 as the third quarter came to an end.

Giancaterino put in a layup to make it a 64-39 game early in the final frame. Redshirt junior
Haleigh Schafer (Eggharbor City, N.J.) put in a layup and converted a free throw to make it 67-42 at the 5:55 mark. Senior
Sofie Fuglsang (Oberanven, Luxembourg) buried a three-pointer in the closing seconds, but SNHU would go on to clinch the 77-50 victory.

D'Youville falls to 3-10 with the loss and will now have some time off before their next game against Queens College on January 10
th.
