BUFFALO, N.Y. – Facing a very tough Lake Erie College team, the D'Youville University men's basketball team fell by a score of 96-84 Sunday afternoon. DYU broke the Storm's four-game streak of scoring over 100 points.
The Saints (2-4) were led by
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) with 18 points with
Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y./IMG Academy) close behind with 14 points.
Jordan Turner (Houston, Texas/Sunrise Christian) and
Jaylin Simmons (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) scored in double-digits with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Over halfway through the first half of action, DYU found themselves trailing by as many as 15 points. D'Youville quickly got the lead under double digits with a 6-0 run to make it 33-24. The Saints continued to apply the pressure to the Storm, going on a 12-2 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from
Nelson St. Louis (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Port St. Lucie) to give DYU the 36-35 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the half. Lake Erie made a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to take a 37-36 lead into the break.
Coming out of the half, the Storm quickly took a 52-42 lead at the 16:45 mark. D'Youville was able to cut the deficit to two possessions thanks in part from a pair of baskets from
TI Scruggs (Huntsville, Ala./Hazel Green) to make it 52-47. Lake Erie was able to take back control of the game, leading by as many as 16 points in the half. DYU kept fighting, cutting the deficit to eight points on several occasions.
DYU went 31-for-56 (55.4 percent) from the floor with LEC going 32-for-57 (56.1 percent) from the field. Lake Erie held the slight edge on the glass, grabbing 31 rebounds to D'Youville's 28.
The Saints will take a brief hiatus as they get ready for the start of conference action on December 6th when they travel to the University of the District of Columbia for a 7:45 p.m. tip.
