Saints Take Four-Set Victory Over St. Thomas Aquinas College

SPARKILL, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball team picked up another key victory over ECC Conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday after four sets of play.

D'Youville University 3 at St. Thomas Aquinas College 1 – (25-15, 26-24, 19-25, 25-16)
Set One
Gameplay started even against the Saints and the Spartans, but a kill from Alex Darby (Huntington, WV / Spring Valley) along with three Spartan errors gave the Saints the 10-7 lead. STAC fought back tying the game at 11, but the Saints offense hit their stride putting up a seven-point run to extend their lead to 18-11. Mitha Hatwar (Columbus, OH / Olentangy Liberty) played a big role in the run recording one kill along with three service aces. The Saints continued to climb as Cameron Ulinski (Parkland, FL / Majory Stoneman Douglas) provided the kill to put the Saints up 24-14 and Giselle Ramirez (Miami, FL / School for Advanced Studies) sealed the deal with a kill to give the Saints the 25-15 win in set one.

Set Two
The Spartans took back control to start the second set and took a quick 7-4 lead, but three kills in-a-row from Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) tied the game at seven. STAC got one point back, but O'Brien, Darby, and Ulinski all provided kills to give the Saints the 10-8 lead. As the score continued to climb another kill from Ulinski put the Saints ahead 22-18. The Spartans fought back scoring four in-a-row to tie the game at 22. A kill form Madeline O'Brien and a service ace from Giselle Ramirez gave the Saints the two points they need allowing them the 26-24 win in set two.

Set Three
The Saints took an early 8-6 lead in the third set, but STAC's offense still had some fight in them as they put up five points in-a-row to take the 11-8 lead. The Saints worked to stay in the game and got within three at 22-19 after a kill from Alex Darby, but the Spartans took the last three points to win set three 25-19 and stay alive.

Set Four
D'Youville got off to a hot start in set four jumping up 6-1. The Saints extended their lead to 13-7 following a four-point run full of kills from Hatwar, Ulinski, and O'Brien. The Spartans put together a three-point run to bring the score to 21-16 in the Saints favor, but the Saints kept rolling scoring the last four points in the set to win 25-16 and win the match 3-1.
