ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Making their first conference road trip of the season, the D'Youville University women's volleyball team fell to Molloy University in three hard-fought sets.
The Saints (5-10, 2-1 ECC) were led by
Cameron Ulinski (Parkland, Fla./Marjory Stoneman Douglas) with eight kills with
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) adding six kills.
Mitha Hatwar (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) facilitated the offense, coming away with 20 assists.
On the defensive side,
Emma Wlstowski (Alden, N.Y./Alden) had 11 digs with
Maddie Boglev (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Mary's) and Ulinski each had four block assists.
The Lions jump out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first set of action before the DYU made it a two-point set with kills from
Giselle Ramirez (Miami, Fla./School for Advanced Studies) and Hatwar, and a pair of aces from Ramirez, made it 10-8. Molloy would continue to lead the set the Saints made a run towards the end.
With Molloy leading 23-19, the Saints went on a 4-0 run to tie it up at 23-23 thanks in part to two aces from
Samantha Killane (Vero Beach, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy). The Lions took the first set by a score of 25-23.
In the second set, the teams battled back and forth, having seven ties in the early going. With the set tied at 13-13, Molloy came out with four unanswered points to make it a 17-13 set. DYU was able to make it a two-point set with a kill from
Isabelle Prentice (Bainbridge, Wash./Bainbridge) and an error by the Lions to make it 18-16 in favor of Molloy. The Lions were able to quickly retake the momentum to take the second set, 25-19.
In the third set, Molloy carried the momentum to lead 11-6 in the early goings of the set. The Saints did not waver, fighting back in the set to make it a two-point set once again. DYU went on a 4-1 run, making it 12-10. During the run, the Saints were benefactors of four Molloy errors.
D'Youville found themselves in a two-point set late, but Molloy was able to close out the match with a 3-1 run.
The Saints will have a quick turnaround as they face Queens University tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m.
