SPARKILL, N.Y. – Making their way downstate for conference action, the D'Youville University women's soccer was defeated by St. Thomas Aquinas College by a score of 4-1 Saturday afternoon.
 
The Saints (0-7-1, 0-3-0 ECC) were led offensively by Manta Socada (Helsinki, Finland/Deutsche Schule Helsinki), who score her first collegiate goal as well as Hannah Fleming (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) notching her first collegiate assist. Socada also led the team in shots on goal with two.
 
The Spartans got on the board first, scoring in the 13th minute. DYU scored the equalizer in the 29th minute as Fleming found Socada to tie things up at 1-1. STAC was able to tack on another score in the 40th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
 
The Saints had an opportunity to tie the game up with a shot from Eleonora Cecchini (San Marino, Fiorentino, Italy/Liceo delle Scienze Umane) in the 61st minute but was turned away. Socada also had a good look to score her second goal of the contest in the 64th minute but was also denied.
 
St. Thomas Aquinas took a two-goal lead in the 76th minute and added another in the 89th minute of play.
 
Katie Liljenquist (Salt Lake City, Utah) went the distance in net, making nine saves on the day.
 
The Saints will return home next Wednesday, October 9th, as they face Felician University for a 1 p.m. start.
