BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a midweek matchup at Dobson Field, the D'Youville University women's soccer team fell to Roberts Wesleyan University by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Saints (1-9-2, 1-5-0 ECC) were led by
Laoise O'Haodha (Limerick, Ireland/Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh), scoring the team's lone goal of the game. O'Haodha led the team in shots on goal with two with
Melia La (Essex, England) and
Manta Socada (Helsinki, Finland/Deutsche Schule Helsinki) each having a shot on goal.
The Redhawks got on the board first in the 22nd minute to put the team up 1-0. The Saints got their first opportunity for the neutralizer in the 40th minute with Socada getting a shot off but was denied.
In the second half, O'Haodha had a chance in the 55th minute but was turned away. The Saints kept at it as La had a good look at goal in the 63rd minute but still could not find the back of the net. O'Haodha was able to tie the game up in the 75th minute, capitalizing on the penalty kick. RWU was able to break the tie in the 82nd minute to secure the win.
Katie Liljenquist (Salt Lake City, Utah) went the distance in net, making four saves.
The Saints will play their final home game of the regular season this Saturday, October 26th, as they host Goldey-Beacom College at 3:30 p.m.
