Burke Scores on Senior Day as Saints Tie Molloy

BUFFALO – The D'Youville University men's soccer team tied Molloy University 1-1 in their Senior Day game on Saturday.

DYU had the edge in shots on goal over Molloy, seven to four; as well as corner kicks, six to three. Saints' goalkeeper Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded three saves on four shots faced.

D'Youville's first scoring chance didn't come until the 20th minute, when senior Charlie Stewart (Aberdeen, Scotland) unleashed a shot that missed wide out to the left.

In the 34th minute, the Saints broke the ice as sophomore Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) found senior Sean Burke (Coventry, England) at the center of the box for the goal to put DYU in front 1-0.

The Saints saw a chance to extend their lead before halftime, as freshman Max Trushell (Canberra, Australia) let one rip on goal, but his shot was saved by the Lions' goalkeeper, and DYU went to halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

In the 53rd minute, freshman Omar Daoudi (South Burlington, Vt.) had an opportunity off a corner kick, but his shot was steered away by Molloy's goalkeeper.

In the 72nd minute, the Lions were finally able to break through as they snuck one past Solorio to even the score at 1-1.

Robinson and freshman Frederick Balmforth (Oslo, Norway) both saw opportunities in front of the net in the 79th minute to take the lead back, but neither could convert.

The Saints' final opportunity came in the 87th minute, when senior Paulo Carvalho (Brazil) got off a shot, but it missed wide left, and the game would go on to finish in a 1-1 stalemate.

D'Youville is now 2-7-3 (0-2-2 ECC) on the year and will now face the College of Staten Island on the road next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
