ELMIRA, N.Y. – Closing out their dual season at the New York State Collegiate Championships, the D'Youville University women's wrestling team split their duals.
The Saints (9-8) fell to No. 21 Elmira College by the score of 35-14 before getting the 35-0 win over Utica University.
No. 21 Elmira 35 – D'Youville 14
After forfeiting the first three matches of the day, DYU was in action at the 123-pound class,
Juliana Smith (Mexico, N.Y.) was downed by Megan Edwards via fall to give the Soaring Eagles the 20-0 advantage.
Emily Sindoni (Nicholas, N.Y.) got the Saints on the board, getting the 10-0 tech. fall just seconds in the first period.
Madison Wellen (East Berlin, Pa.) continued the win streak, getting the fall over Leslie Monterrosa in 1:39.
Elmira took the next two matches via pinfall before
Elizabeth Stricklin (San Antonio, Texas) got the fall over Hazel Dahlquist in 1:56. EC closed out the dual with a pin to win 35-14.
In an exhibition match,
Adriana Lagoe (Syracuse, N.Y.) got the fall over Hailey Berry in 2:32.
D'Youville 35 – Utica 0
In their final dual of the day, action picked up in the 123-pound class where DYU won three straight matches by forfeit. Smith, Sindoni, and Lagoe all picked up victories.
Alessandra Elliott (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up her first win of the day, getting the fall over Gillian Mills in 52 seconds.
The Saints finished strong, picking up wins in the final three matches by forfeit.
Saniyah Ward (The Colony, Texas), Stricklin, and
Riley Wentlent (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) got the victories.
The Saints will have one final regular season competition next Sunday, February 4th, as they travel to Frostburg State University for the Frostburg Open at 10 a.m.
