Strong Pitching and Timely Hitting Lifts DYU over Bentley

LEESBURG, FLA. – The D'Youville University softball team picked up their first win of its' spring break on day two thanks to timely hitting and solid pitching to best Bentley 6-3.

D'Youville drew a tough opponent in game two as they played National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll #8 ranked University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds took advantage of the extra outs given to them by the Saints, run ruling them in five innings, 8-0.

GAME 1 – DYU 6, BU 3

  • DYU got off to a quick start in the home half of the first as Lauren Booth drove in Brianna Dewey before Hannah Bardeen's double to left plated Booth and Emily Przybysz, DYU 3-0
  • BU began the third with a double and a 2-run HR to left center to trim the margin to one, 3-2.
  • DYU answered in the bottom of the frame as Przybysz's one out infield single was followed by another Bardeen double, this time to right center, DYU 4-2
  • Olivia Goderis' 2-out double down the left field line, pushed the margin back to three, 5-2, heading to the fourth
  • Kate Cornborough's scored on a passed ball after her pinch hit single to add an insurance run in the fourth, DYU 6-2
  • Alexis DelFavero made her collegiate debut in relief and worked around some trouble in the seventh to finish the game for the Saints

  • Sarah Parzych earned her second win of the season: W (2-2) 4 1/3, 7 H, 2 ER

Game 2: #8 INDY 8, DYU 0 (F/5)

  • Back-to-back errors on a pair of INDY sacrifice bunts helped the Greyhounds put up three in the second
  • Cassie Crerar almost worked around a leadoff triple in the third but a 2-out single upped the margin to four, 4-0
  • The Greyhounds led off the fourth with three straight hits to plate before a new pitcher was greeted with a bases clearing triple to extend the deficit to 7-0
  • INDY tacked on one more before setting DYU down in order in the fifth to end the game early via the run rule

  • Crerar: L (0-3) 3 1/3 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2K
  • DYU mustered just two hits while committing three errors

The Saints play two more on Monday, March 13th versus Minnesota-Crookston at 2pm and Felician at 4:30.
