Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LEESBURG, FLA. – The D'Youville University softball team began their weeklong spring break trip by dropping a pair of games in the late innings to Bloomfield College (6-4) and Purdue Northwest (4-1) on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1 – BC 6, DYU 4

  • After a pair of stolen bases, the Bears used a 2-out single through the left side to put one on the board in the top of the first.
  • DYU answered in the bottom of the frame as Mikayla Bush flared one over the second basemen into shallow right field to plate Brianna Dewey, 1-1.
  • Lauren Booth followed with runners on 1st and 2nd by ripping one into left center to bring home Hannah Bardeen, DYU 2-1.
  • The Saints tacked one more on thanks to an error by the Bears' second basemen, DYU 3-1 after the first.
  • A leadoff walk came back to hurt DYU in the second as BC responded with a 2-out single up the middle to cut the margin in half at 3-2.
  • The Bears took advantage of another leadoff walk in the third, thanks to three straight hits to score two and take a 4-3 lead.
  • Another error proved costly for BC in the bottom half of the inning with 2-outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd as a groundball to short, took a bad hop and got into the outfield, plating Bush and knotting the game at 4-4.
  • After a quiet fourth and fifth inning, the Saints retired the first two Bears batters in the sixth before a bunt base hit started the 2-out magic for BC.
  • A single to right field put runners on the corners, a double to left field short hopped the fence and cleared the bases to give BC a 6-4 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, a one-out walk by Lauren Beck and a single through the left side by Olivia Goderis had the Saints threatening but a third to first double play got the Bears out of trouble heading to the seventh.
  • Cassie Crecar kept BC off the board in the seventh to give her team a chance but DYU went down in order to end the game.
