SPARKILL, N.Y. - The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team lost their Saturday match to St. Thomas Aquinas 3-1.
D'Youville University 1 at St. Thomas Aquinas College 3 – (25-27, 25-23, 18-25, 22-25)
First Set
The Spartans started off the day with the lead, but a service ace from
Lauren Scully (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Wellington) tied the game up at 4. From there, the Spartans regained the lead jumping up again, but a kill from
Eve Musielak (Eden, N.Y./Eden) tied the game up at 11. The Saints took their first lead of the day, holding the lead at 15-11. St. Thomas Aquinas fought back and the score was brought even again at 25-25. The Spartans would go ahead with the final two kills to take the first set 27-25.
Second Set
In set two, D'Youville took the early 4-0 lead. The Spartans worked to come back, but the Saints held strong and controlled the lead for the majority of the game. The Spartans brought the set to a tie at 23, but a kill from
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y.) and
Brianna Damstetter (Buffalo, N.Y./ City Honors) gave the Saints the 25-23 win in set two.
Third Set
Again, in the third set D'Youville got on top early, but the Spartans quickly came back tying the game at four. The Saints fought to get back on top and came within one thanks to a service ace from
Mitha Hatwar (Powel, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) at 16-17. However, the Spartans had hit their stride and would go on to win the third set 25-18.
Fourth Set
The Saints continued to work hard going into set four. After falling behind early, D'Youville started their comeback, scoring five straight points to tie the game at eight. The Spartans took the lead back, but the Saints stayed close.
Isabelle Prentice (Bainbridge, Wash./Bainbridge) had a kill that brought the Saints within two at 21-23, but the Spartans would go on to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
